New Build Method for: Nusantara Beach and Cut Stone of Limestone, Calcite, Basalt, Marble, Onyx and Quartz Siltstone - Flooring and Walling
(i) Installation:
On delivery the stone tiles may be damp; handle them carefully to avoid marking or chipping. Follow the instructions (refer to the Nusantara installation guide) to install the floor, but do not grout. Allow the tiles to dry.
(ii) Cleaning during the fixing process:
Before grouting, check that the tiles are clean and dry. The floor is usually dry enough to treat when all the tiles are of a similar shade. If they need a light clean to remove footprints, dust or dirt, use Lithofin MN Power-Clean. This is a special alkaline cleaner, which will help remove grouting compounds, builder's dust, etc.
(iii) Protection:
In order to prepare the surface for grouting, its porosity must be reduced to facilitate removal of grouting residue. Apply half the specified quantity of impregnator (Lithofin MN Stain-Stop or Lithofin Stain-Stop > W < ) to the surface with a mop, roller or brush, carefully minimizing any frothing residue that may occur. Leave the floor to dry for four to six hours. The average coverage of Lithofin MN Stain-Stop or Lithofin Stain-Stop > W < on regular limestone flooring is 4-5m 2 /L. This recommendation is merely a guideline to facilitate both ordering and application of material. The key to sealing the limestone flooring properly, i.e. rendering it oil and grease proof, is to saturate the limestone floor until no urther product will sink into the pores and capillaries. In the majority of cases there will always be a residue of Lithofin MN Stain-Stop left on the surface after the drying period, which will have to be removed or wiped away with a dry cloth or mop. If Lithofin Stain-Stop > W < has been used initially as a pre-impregnator, either on site or before arrival, regular MN Stain-Stop can be used on top, following exactly the same procedure as stated within this technical method statement. In short, you can mix the two products in their application (preferably using Lithofin Stain-Stop > W < initially.)
(iv) Grouting:
Read the grouting instructions carefully. We recommend that you spread the grout liberally and cover the whole of the limestone flooring, as well as filling in the grout joints. This will minimize the 'tram-lining' effect that may appear a week or two after installation. Remove excess grout with a solution of Lithofin MN Power-Clean diluted 1:10 with water. Allow the grouting to dry completely before starting the final impregnation process.
(v) Final protection:
Apply the rest of the Lithofin MN Stain-Stop or Lithofin Stain-Stop > W < to the surface. Note that it is not the number of coats of impregnator that matters, but the completeness of the coverage. You should keep applying Lithofin MN Stain-Stop until every part the floor is completely saturated, even if this means using an extra quantity. Lithofin MN Stain-Stop is guaranteed to be stain resistant if this procedure is followed.
(vi) Maintenance:
For regular cleaning, use pH-neutral products in order not to damage either stone or sealant. We recommend Lithofin Easy-Care for most soft limestone. This contains cleaning components as well as enhancing agents that will make the surface richer and more attractive with regular use. Lithofin Easy-Care may be applied with a mop and bucket, however, in larger/heavy-duty areas we strongly recommend use of a Numatic vac or similar to remove the wash water. Do not use maintenance products containing waxes, as these will promote the build-up of false layers, which spoil the floor's appearance in the long term. Remove stubborn marks with Lithofin Wexa, diluted 1:10.
(vii) Extra maintenance on rough surfaces:
Limestone with a rough-honed surface may become difficult to keep clean after a few weeks of use. If so, apply Lithofin Multi-Seal to reduce the roughness of the floor and facilitate future cleaning.

Refurbishment Method for Renovation of:
Nusantara Beachstone and Cut Stone of Limestone, Calcite, Basalt, Marble, Onyx and Quartz - Flooring and Walling (i) Introduction:
Due to the diverse selection of stone flooring laid over the past decade, it is difficult to specify a single strategy for success when renovating a stone floor. Even so, our experience with Lithofin has enabled us to develop a consistently successful approach using standard Lithofin products. Specialized Lithofin cleaners, impregnators and sealants will only be needed in drastic situations - where impregnated staining is apparent, or where the surface features of a rarely-specified limestone require the use of specific surface sealants. Besides working on existing limestone flooring which was laid some time ago (say three to ten years), the renovation guidelines are also suitable for refurbishing limestone flooring that has been incorrectly treated during the new build process and requires immediate renovation. All these products will work very effectively if combined with the use of slow speed Numatic scrubbing machines and wet and-dry vac equipment. We can provide a separate specification sheet which gives the correct requirements for hire, set up and usage of this equipment.
(ii) Cleaning:
There are several Lithofin products which will be successful on a high percentage of stone floor cleaning projects. The most commonly specified product is Lithofin Wexa. This is a specially designed stripper cleaner, effective at dissolving all surface grime, dirt, wax and acrylic residues. Dilute 1:15 with water and apply with a hand held scrubbing brush or (for best results) industrial cleaning machinery. This will generally successfully clean 90% of surface residues. A stronger solution maybe needed if there is a large amount of residue. If impregnated stains and blemishes are still present, they may be removed with the use of Lithofin Stain-Away, a very strong solvent based material with special usage instructions. If there is deep staining from oil and grease this can be removed with Lithofin Oil-Ex. This is a poultice that will draw oil and most stains from under the stone surface.
When the surface has been successfully renovated, make sure it is rinsed thoroughly with water. This ensures a neutral pH balance, allowing successful adhesion of whatever impregnator or sealant is to be used. The majority of Nusantara stone flooring will originally have been supplied with a natural smooth surface. This machine finishing is delicate, so when using industrial cleaning equipment, you should normally specify a soft cleaning pad (these are usually white or red coloured) and we recommend 3M white nylon. Never, (except in extreme cases), use acid-based or highly alkaline formulations to renovate limestone flooring. This will inevitably remove the delicate machine finish that was originally part of the floor character. Restoring the finish will require a diamond grinding machine, which will be expensive and time consuming. In some instances a polyurethane or pure acrylic sealant may have been used on an existing floor. If this is the case, use Lithofin Stain-Away in its concentrated form to remove surface residues. This is a long and arduous procedure and may require professional expertise or a second opinion in its operation.
(iii) Protection:
For most original stone flooring installations, the correct treatment will have been to impregnate the surface with Lithofin MN Stain-Stop. This is an all in one multi-purpose stain resistant finish that does not leave any surface residues and which has, if properly maintained, a longevity of three to five years or more. You may now treat the renovated flooring using Lithofin MN Stain-Stop. In some extreme cases the limestone surface may be slightly rough, and will need a surface sealant following impregnation. Lithofin Multi-Seal is a surface sealant designed to reduce the incidence of scuffing, it is designed to be as matte as possible in its finish and to synthetically reduce the abrasive roughness of the floor to make maintenance easier. It is highly resistant to abrasion an staining, but its precise longevity will depend on surface wear and tear.
(iv) Maintenance:
In effect the customer will now have a brand new limestone floor, and the maintenance procedure will be similar to a new floor. Use of Lithofin Easy-Care and Lithofin Wexa will be more than adequate to successfully maintain the surface.
This information should be considered informal and non-binding. The products must be used according to local conditions and materials. Where no previous experience is available, or in cases of doubt, test the product in an inconspicuous area.
New Build Method for:
Nusantara Siltstone and Quartz Siltstone - Flooring and Wall facing
(i) Installation:
Sandstone flooring is sold in various colours, sizes and stages of reclamation. Most material is available as 'freshly sawn' - honed material that will need similar treatment to natural limestone flooring. All need to be clean and dry before treatment can commence.
(ii) Cleaning during the fixing process:
Sandstone Flooring is generally more hardy than limestone, marble or granite. Its natural constitution lends itself to easy cleaning with an acid solution, so any building dirt or leftover reclamation staining may be removed with Lithofin Cement-Away. This is an extremely concentrated compound of acids that can be used both before and after grouting, if necessary. If you use it before grouting, make sure the surface is well rinsed and bone dry before applying the appropriate impregnator.
(iii) Protection:
In order to prepare the surface for grouting, its porosity must be reduced to facilitate removal of grouting residue. Apply half the specified quantity (approximately 10m 2 /L) of Lithofin MN Stain-Stop to the surface with a roller or large brush. The key to sealing Yorkstone and Sandstone flooring properly is to saturate it until no further impregnator will sink into the pores of the stone. As a guide for ordering and application, coverage for MN Stain-Stop is approximately 5m 2 /L on regular Yorkstone or Sandstone flooring, but this will vary. Leave the floor to dry for four to six hours. After the drying period there will usually be a residue of Lithofin MN Stain-Stop left on the surface. Wipe this away with a dry cloth or mop.
(iv) Grouting:
Read the grouting instructions carefully. We recommend spreading the grout liberally, covering the whole of the sandstone flooring as well as filling in the grout joints. This will minimize the 'tramlining' effect that may appear a week or two after installation. Remove excess grout using a solution of Lithofin Cement-Away diluted 1:40 with water. Allow the grouting to dry completely before starting the final impregnation process.
(v) Final protection:
Apply the rest of the Lithofin MN Stain-Stop to the surface. Note that it is not the number of coats of impregnator that matters, but the completeness of the coverage. Keep applying Lithofin MN Stain-Stop until every part of the floor is completely saturated, even if this means using an extra quantity. Lithofin MN Stain-Stop is guaranteed to be stain resistant if this procedure is followed.
(vi) Maintenance:
Freshly sawn rough Yorkstone and Sandstone flooring will generally require a little more maintenance than reclaimed Yorkstone or Sandstone flags. The surfaces of reclaimed flags will be very smooth, due to 100 years or more of wear and maintenance before reclamation. Use Lithofin Easy-Care to keep these flags clean. Freshly sawn flooring may need an application of sealant on top of the Lithofin MN Stain-Stop, to reduce the roughness of the floor and make future maintenance easier. Lithofin Multi-Seal is ideally suited for this purpose.
This information should be considered informal and non-binding. The products must be used according to local conditions and materials. Where no previous experience is available, or in cases of doubt, test the product in an inconspicuous area.

Lithofin MN Stain-Stop
Technical information
Description:
A special ready-to-use product from the Lithofin range for marble, natural and artificial stone. Lithofin MN Stain-Stop contains silicones and hardeners that repel water and oil effectively. Lithofin MN Stain-Stop penetrates into the surface and forms a thin, invisible film in the capillaries. This stops oils from penetrating the surface for about 6-24 hours for marble and granite and up to 8 days for limestone. Within this time, it is possible to wipe away oils without leaving stains. The effect depends on the absorbed quantity of the product. Using Lithofin MN Stain- Stop does not usually affect the appearance of the stone, however, some intensification of colour may occur in darker stone types. It is UV-resistant (yellowing of stone will not occur) and dries without leaving a sticky residue. The active ingredients pose no health hazard after drying.
Field of application and suitable surfaces:
Lithofin MN Stain-Stop is used as a stain repellent for all marble, natural and artificial stone surfaces. Particularly suitable for walls and floors of kitchens, bathrooms and other areas at risk from staining, as well as for table tops, window sills and domestic surfaces. Polished and ground marble, polished and natural cleft limestone, slate, varying finishes of granite, reconstituted stone, artificial stone, terrazzo and resin bonded stone.
Please note:
With polished marble, red wine, ketchup or cola can cause etching. Never allow Lithofin MN Stain-Stop to dry on the surface, as it is not easily removed. Only to be used on absorbent and dry surfaces. Glass, ceramics and surfaces sensitive to solvents must be protected. A test area is advised before full treatment.
Directions for use:
The stone surfaces to be treated must be clean and dry. On an absorbent surface, apply generously and evenly with a brush or lambs wool roller. On less absorbent surfaces apply with a brush or cloth. Within 30-40 minutes, treat the surface again to permit the impregnator to be absorbed. Then after 30 minutes remove any residue completely using a cloth. Over large surfaces, draw off excess material using a window rubber and polish using a using a Numatic scrubbing machine with a 3M polishing pad.
• Coverage:
Dependent on absorbent properties of stone:
about. 15m 2 /L, for polished stone surfaces
about 6-8m 2 /L, for natural and sawn stone

Lithofin MN Colour Intensifier
Technical Information
Art.-No. 167-
Description:
A special product from the Lithofin range for marble and natural stone (MN). It is a ready-to-use wax system in paste form and contains natural and synthetic wax raw materials, which form a hardwearing film. MN Cobble-Wax is a solid paste, which is easy to apply and spread. It forms a surface wax layer, which can be polished when dry, it provides colour-intensification and gives the background a colour saturated, silky shine appearance. The surfaces are also less sensitive, easier to maintain and are made more attractive.
Field of application and suitable surfaces:
For final treatment of floors in antique-cobbled marble, with sandblasted, acid or similarly treated surfaces. To improve resistance to stains the surfaces may also be pretreated with Lithofin MN Stain Stop. The MN Cobble-Wax treatment results in a strong colour, antique-effect appearance. MN Cobble-Wax is also used for maintaining already waxed surfaces. It is not suitable for polished or sealed surfaces, or for external use.
Pre-treatment:
The background must be completely dry, clean, free of stains and absorbent. Cement film can be removed with Lithofin MN Cement Away or MN Builder’s Clean and these acids will also roughen up or open the pores of the stone and make it easier for the wax to penetrate. Any powdery lime deposits can, if necessary, be removed mechanically with a hard pad. Pre-treatment with Lithofin MN Stain Stop is possible to improve resistance to stains. In this case apply MN Cobble Wax about 1-2 hours after applying Lithofin MN Stain-Stop. The temperature of the surface must not be below 12°C.
Directions for use:
We strongly recommend applying to a sample surface. This shows what the result will be and gives information on how much to apply, drying time etc. Lithofin MN Cobble Wax is ready-to-use and can be applied directly from the tin. With more impervious surfaces, it should be warmed up in a water-bath so it becomes more liquid. The fluid, warm wax will penetrate more deeply and give greater deepening of colour. Apply evenly and thinly, spread and rub in with a lint free cloth. You may need to apply treatment twice with strongly absorbent, porous stone. Polish with a brush or polishing pad when dry.
• Coverage:
About 20m 2 /L, for first treatment, depending on type of surface. About 40m 2 /L, when re-waxing.
• Drying time:
About 2 hours to polishing. has set hard after about 12 hours. Where larger amounts are applied, extend the drying time to about 24 hours.
• After treatment:
Further care of the antique marble surface should be done with Lithofin Easy Care Cleaner, which should always be used with washing water. If the surface becomes matte or dull freshen up with Lithofin MN Care Sheen, or re-wax with Lithofin Cobble Wax.
Storage:
Closed, in a cool dry place. Can be stored for about 2 years.
Safety:
Keep out of reach of children. Ventilate well during and after application. Labeling requirements in accordance with Dangerous Material Regulations or EC Guideline 88/379: Inflammable ADR/RID: Class 3, No.31c (limited quantity: cartons with 0.5L, 1L and 5L containers). Lithofin MN Cobble Wax
Technical Information
Art.-No. 178-
Description:
Lithofin Easy-Care is a mild soap cleanser with a balanced composition of natural and synthetic cleansing agents, supplemented with effective aftercare components. This formulation, which has given reliable service for decades, guarantees thorough cleaning combined with lasting aftercare treatment at minimum expenditure. Highly active cleansing agents loosen the dirt from the surface so that it can be removed easily. As the liquid film which remains after wiping dries out, it leaves after-care components behind on the surface. With repeated use, these deposits accumulate in the surface and steadily enhance its beauty, i.e. the natural colour patterns are emphasized, giving the surface a rich, well-cared for attractive appearance. At the same time, the surface becomes more resistant to staining and easier to care for as a whole. Due to its low alkaline properties Lithofin Easy- Care cleans extremely well without bleaching. Lithofin Easy- Care contains no wax and, consequently does not build up layers. It leaves a silt repellent and slip-retarding film with a fresh, pleasant odour.
Field of application and suitable surfaces:
Lithofin Easy-Care may be safely used for all water resistant surfaces. However, it is particularly suitable for surfaces where after-care components bring about an improved appearance.

Lithofin MN Power Clean
Technical Information
Art.-No. 160-
Description:
Lithofin Cement-Away contains a mixture of special acids and cleaning components, in a combination tried and tested for over 30 years. Lithofin Cement-Away is exceptionally suitable for many cleaning jobs. Lithofin Cement-Away dissolves and removes surface fouling such as mortar residues, cement films, hardened dirt coatings, efflorescence, rust and chalk deposits, algae and moss.
Field of application and suitable surfaces:
Lithofin Cement-Away is universally applicable after tile laying, in natural stone construction - in practice wherever tiles and natural and concrete free stones have to be cleaned. Particularly suitable for exterior use and building sites. All acid resistant tiles can be cleaned with Lithofin Cement-Away, such as wall and floor tiles, slabs, stoneware tiles, brick, clay and clinker coverings, terracotta and concrete freestone surfaces (sight and wash concrete). Lithofin Cement-Away is not qualified for polished and fine grained limestone (marble, concrete free-stones). For iron containing types of gneiss (e.g. serizzo) a yellow colouring may arise. This can be prevented or removed with Lithofin MN Builder’s Clean. Lithofin Cement-Away
Technical Information
Art.-No. 010-
Description:
A special product from the Lithofin range. It is a water-based product, which is ready for use and contains high-quality and natural waxes together with additives. Lithofin Wexa Multi Seal forms a protective film with a natural satin sheen. Dirt can no longer penetrate the surface of the stone or tile and therefore can be easily cleaned. Rough surfaces particularly benefit from treatment with Lithofin Wexa Multi Seal becoming smoother and easier to maintain. The stone surface will become scuff resistant, water resistant and will greatly reduce the incidence of staining from oil and grease. Surfaces retain their natural colour and appearance is often greatly improved with a brighter finish. The product is easy and safe to use.
Field of application and suitable surfaces:
Surfaces should be clean and completely dry. Any dirt or soiling should be removed with a Lithofin cleaner. Apply undiluted Lithofin Wexa Multi Seal uniformly with a soft brush, roller or sponge. It is usually necessary to apply two or three coats to achieve a uniform appearance. Leave one to two hours of drying time between coats. The suitable temperature range for application is 5-25°C. Clean any equipment used for the application activity with water.
Please note:
Do not walk on the surface while it is drying out. Always treat the whole area of the room in question. Wipe off splashes on wood, glass, varnish, etc. with a damp cloth.
Pre-treatment:
All porous surfaces should be treated with an appropriate Lithofin impregnator for best results.
Coverage:
About 7-12m 2 /L, depending on the surface.
After-treatment:
For subsequent care-treatment, we recommend Lithofin Easy Care. If the protective effect diminishes, Lithofin Wexa Multi Seal can also be added to the wash water for maintenance.
Storage:
Keep closed in a dry place not subject to temperatures below 0°C. Shelf life about 2 years.
Safety:
Keep out of reach of children. Labeling requirements in accordance with Dangerous Material Regulations or EC-Guideline 88/379: None
